Tuohey nearing returning after undergoing surgery

WATCHING on from the stands hasn’t been easy, but Greencastle corner forward Dan Tuohey is mightily relieved that he’s on the verge of making a return after undergoing knee surgery earlier in the year.

Greencastle sit top of the table with an unblemished record after four matches, and it’s fair to say they’ll only be strengthened even further when Tuohey gets back to full fitness.

He underwent keyhole surgery on his right knee and the 27-year-old is hopeful that manager Sean Teague will give him the go ahead in the coming weeks to rejoin the match-day panel.

“I tore my lateral meniscus, it wasn’t that big of a deal. I could’ve left it and played on but I wouldn’t have been flying. I’m back now and hopefully I’ll get some game-time in the next couple of weeks if Teague takes a notion!

“I’m getting there hopefully, you can do all the strength work you like but I need to get minutes under the belt.

“This was my first week back training so hopefully from now on I’ll get minutes here or there. It’s been cat missing out, you’re not playing any part at all so it’s been difficult.”

Greencastle have surged to the top of the table with four wins in as many games, but Tuohey urges caution as they are yet to play any of the major contenders for the title.

“I don’t mean to be running the teams down that we have played but they haven’t been teams that are going well. If you look at our next five or six fixtures we’re starting to play the big teams in the league, the likes of Gortin and Aghyaran.”
