A STALWART of Girlguiding in Omagh has been awarded an MBE for her decades of service to the movement.
Jackie Moore has dedicated the honour to all of the people who have helped her along the way.
Chronicling how she got involved in the movement, Jackie said, “I moved over here with my parents in 1969 from England and by way of getting us integrated into the community mum signed me up to join the Brownies.”
Jackie later became a Brownie leader.
In 1984, she married her husband Mervyn and moved to Omagh. In an attempt to immerse herself in the community she wanted to join another group.
“The then district commissioner Ivy Turner wanted to start up a new young group that was new to Ulster for three to seven year olds and at that stage they were called the Bunnies,” Jackie explained.
She added, “In 1985 I agreed to start that up and have never left the movement ever since.”
