Roundabout makeover underway

TREES at the Thomas Street roundabout in Dungannon have been chopped down over the last week as part of a makeover.

Earlier in the month, Dungannon councillor Clement Cuthbertson called for the butterfly planters synonymous with the roundabout to remain in the town once redevelopment work begins.

Redevelopment of the Thomas Street roundabout has been identified as a potential project in the council’s capital framework for 2020-24.

Councillors were told in advance of any major redevelopment, preparatory works, at an estimated cost of £20,000 are now required to clear and refresh the existing landscape/structures on the roundabout to address risks associated with the site.

Instead of the butterfly, perennial planting in raised beds is now planned for the roundabout and the butterfly will be relocated.
