A recent spate of vandalism on life-saving equipment in the Coalisland Canal area has been condemned.
The latest attack was highlighted this week by Councillor Dan Kerr.
“Users of Coalisland Canal Pathway have once again contacted me about this vital life-saving equipment being damaged and threw into the canal,” said Cllr Kerr.
“I’d encourage those responsible to desist immediately as this is damaging equipment that is here to serve the community but it is also costing thousands of pounds to replace regularly.”
Mid Ulster Council have since replaced the damaged equipment.
A spokesperson for the council said: “Following a report of life saving equipment being damaged at the Coalisland Canal Pathway, Council staff carried out an inspection at the site, and the equipment has now been replaced.
“The Council is once again urging those responsible for vandalism of essential lifesaving equipment at all our water sites, including the Coalisland Canal Pathway, to have respect for the need for such equipment and to stop tampering with throwlines and other items immediately.
“Despite the Council undertaking weekly inspections of the canal site, lifesaving equipment continues to be removed or tampered with.
