Fun day out helps raise much-needed funds for Omagh charity

BLUE SKIES bathed the Baronscourt as families flocked to Newtown to enjoy a fun day in aid of Care for Cancer under the beaming sunshine.

Organised by the Campsie-based charity,  Saturday’s event featured activities for all ages, a beautiful craft fayre, iconic vintage vehicles, a horse and cart, musical entertainment, a raffle and a walk around the estate’s stunning surrounds.

Situated in the foothills of the Sperrins, Baronscourt Estate is host to magnificent displays of flowers including bluebells also known as ‘fairy flowers’, ‘witches’ thimbles’ and ‘cuckoo’s boots’.

The Estate is not usually open to the public, so the event marked a perfect way for people to enjoy the stunning sunshine and beautiful grounds and these charming flowers while raising vital funds for the charity.

Based in Campsie, Care for Cancer supports the community of Omagh and its surrounding areas and provides information and practical support to cancer patients, their carers and families.

The charity offer a range of services to patients, including: A drop-in centre run by experienced volunteers; transport for patients to hospital appointments; complementary therapies for patients and carers, including aromatherapy, reflexology and reiki.

This service is available to both patients and their carers; a bra-fitting service for women who have had breast cancer surgery; provision of recliner chairs for the terminally ill; counselling; support groups for those affected by cancer and the bereaved; an information library consisting of relevant books that people can consult or borrow; a range of classed including yoga and lifestyle courses, and social activities, organised to support patients, their families and the bereaved which are open to everyone.

The registered charity rely completely on donations, people’s generosity and our volunteers in order to continue to deliver the aforementioned support services and more. Indeed, fundraising has always been a big part of Care for Cancer’s work, and without it and the support the charity get from its volunteers, they would not be able to provide the services that so many people rely on.

A spokesperson from the charity expressed their thanks to everyone who ensured Saturday’s fun day was a great success.

“Thank you to everyone who supported our event at the beautiful Baronscourt Estate,” they said. “Perfect weather in perfect surroundings.”
