Mid Ulster Pride announce bigger and better 2024 parade

Mid Ulster Pride have announced their fifth annual Pride parade which is set to take place in Cookstown on August 10 – in what is certainly set to be a spectacular celebration of love, diversity and unity in the community.

Speaking with the Tyrone Herald, chair of Mid Ulster Pride, Josh
Cuddy said that this year’s celebrations will be ‘bigger’ and ‘better’ than ever.

He said, “We are astounded by the support from the wonderful people of Mid Ulster in recent years.

“What started as 17 of us parading through Cookstown street at arms-length during covid, facing backlash from protesters, has now grown into something very special that we are extremely proud of.

“I have been delighted to see so many young families showing support over the years who want to raise their kids in a stable, tolerant and accepting society.”

Regarding this year’s entertainment, Josh said we can expect a lot of familiar faces, along with a few surprises

“This year’s entertainment will include all our usual queens, who are coming up from Belfast.

“Cara Van Park has been an incredible help in organising the ladies and getting them up here to Mid Ulster every year.

“We also have a few surprises up our sleeve, so don’t miss out.”

In a statement announcing the date, a spokesperson for Mid Ulster Pride added, “A massive thank you to everyone who has been part of this incredible journey.

“Your support has been the heartbeat of our Pride movement, and we couldn’t have reached this milestone without each and every one of you.

“We’re so excited to dive back into programming for our favourite rural queers as we lead up to this year’s parade.

“Keep an eye out for our upcoming events!”

Mid Ulster Pride was established in 2019 to advocate for and enhance LGBTQ+ resources in the Mid Ulster region. Quickly embraced by the local LGBTQ+ community and their allies, the core values of Mid Ulster Pride are encapsulated in their enduring motto, ‘Belonging, Love, and Celebration’.

They host a variety of events throughout the year, including coffee mornings and social evenings in major towns across the district. These gatherings provide a safe and welcoming space for LGBTQ+ individuals, their families, friends, and supporters.
