Musical quartet sings songs from our favourite classics

A LIVE music spectacular featuring songs from an array of our favourite classic shows will soon be taking place at the Strule Arts Centre, Omagh.

Titled ‘Classic Songs from Classic Shows’, taking to the sparkling stage will be local professional musicians, Gerarda McCann, Grainne Kirk, Calvin Davison and Niall Moore, accompanied by two of the finest brass bands in the country, Strabane Brass Band and St Mark’s Silver Band.

The entertainment extravaganza will begin in earnest on Friday, June 28 at 8pm, with full price tickets costing £12 or £10 concession.

The four singing stars will be performing songs from ‘Oklahoma!’, ‘Annie Get Your Gun’, ‘Evita’, ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ and many more, backed by the mighty Strabane Brass Band, under the baton of Charles Fyffe, and St Mark’s Silver Band from Portadown, directed by Bob Quick.

This will be a night to remember with four brilliant singers and two fantastic bands – and all music played on the night will be completely live; a rare phenomenon in today’s world of digital effects and backing tracks.

Save the date, folks: ‘Classic Songs from Classic Shows’ will take place on Friday, June 28, beginning at 8pm.

SPRING INTO ENTERTAINMENT

As spring continues to bloom, so, too, does entertainment at the Strule Arts Centre, Omagh.

Indeed, tomorrow (Friday), the stage is set to light up with the return of Bernie in ‘Absolutely Flab-U-Lous’.

Rozlyn Sheridan reprises her role as Bernie Jones, the charming laundry business owner. Bernie’s laughter-inducing journey unfolds as she navigates her way through the local Slimming Watchers group, forging firm friendships along the way.

Her entrepreneurial spirit leads her to expand her business, ‘Stitched and Steamed’, from a humble garden shed to the bustling local high street. Bernie’s hard work culminates in a nomination for the coveted title of ‘Business Woman of the Year’, promising an evening of laughter and heartwarming moments for audiences aged 16+.

Music enthusiasts are in for a treat on Saturday, April 20, with the much-anticipated return of ‘Cash Returns’’ The tribute band, led by JP Mac as Johnny Cash and Karen Martin as June Carter, promises a spectacular ten-piece show.

For those with a creative flair, a pottery course with Frances Sweeney offers an opportunity to explore the art of pottery inspired by ancient sculptured stone heads found in Tyrone and Fermanagh. The course, running from April 23 to May 21, provides participants with the chance to create their own masterpieces.

‘3 Bucks Left’ at 8pm on Friday, April 26 features a spin-off of County Mayo’s own ‘Hardy Bucks’, and on Saturday, April 27, your kids can learn how to paint with artist, Gail Turner. For those aged six and under, don’t miss ‘Teddy’s Zoo Adventure’ at 11am.

And at 1.30pm, those aged 5-10 years can enjoy ‘Alice Through the Looking Glass’.

And country music legend, Brendan Quinn, will finish off the month by celebrating 60 years in the music business on April 27.
