7 Top Tips For The Mother Of The Bride

Being the mother of the bride is a huge responsibility and it’s not something that comes around often, so it’s important that you get it right. If you’ve planned your own wedding you might have a lot of advice and tips for your daughter but it’s best that you communicate these in a way that won’t patronise or insult her.

Here are 7 top tips to help you through everything from the planning stages to the wedding day…

1. Listen
Remember first and foremost that it’s your daughter’s big day so no matter what is in your creative vision for the venue, the dress, the menu and whatever else, only her opinion matters. Instead of telling her everything you think she should do, listen to what she has in mind and respect that her happiness is most important.

2. Talk Money
After listening it might become obvious how your daughter’s plans will affect her budget. Whether you are helping financially or not, sit her down and have the money conversation. Ask her what the budget is and plan everything she wants to see if it’s realistic. If it’s not, there are loads of ways to get creative and cut corners in an artsy way.
3. Meet His Parents
If you haven’t already, now would be the time to meet the groom’s parents. After all, it’s best not to leave that to the wedding. They might also have some ideas about the big day or be able to share some of the responsibilities. Ultimately, it’s really important that you get along for your daughter’s sake. Be friendly and set up an informal meeting.

4. Help To Find Her Dress First
Prioritising her dress will make her feel special and fill her with confidence. Even if finding the right dress is a challenge, be encouraging and positive. Always have a solution or another dress shop up your sleeve so that she knows she can count on you.
5. Dress Yourself Well
Don’t forget your own outfit and make sure you plan it well. Don’t wear white and don’t dress more extravagantly than the bride. Instead, find an outfit that matches the style of the wedding and run it past your daughter. She will be flattered you asked and it will save any potential awkwardness later.

6. Get Organised
It’s your job to anticipate anything that could go wrong. Think about everything from the guest list to the weather and make sure you know exactly what is going on in the wedding. That way, if the bride starts to panic you will be able to swoop in and save the day. After all, looking after your daughter is the most important part.
7. Make The Most Of It
Don’t forget to enjoy the whole planning process. This is great way for you and your daughter to spend lots of time together and make happy memories.
