ALL charges against a Tyrone GAA club and one of its members in relation to a fundraising draw in 2021 have been dismissed.
St Malachy’s GAC, of Rossmore Road, Edendork, and club official Darragh Cullen, of Bush Road in Dungannon, were alleged to have contravened the Betting, Gaming, Lotteries and Amusements (Northern Ireland) Order from 1985.
It is understood to be the first time that charges were brought against any sports club or community organisation in the North during the 38 years that the legislation has been in force.
However, these charges were dismissed at a short hearing in Dungannon Magistrates Court this morning.
A representative from the Public Prosecution Service (PPS) told the court that the alleged incidents no longer met the threshold for prosecution and the PPS would not be continuing the case against Cullen or St Malachy’s GAC.
The District Judge sitting in Dungannon then dismissed the case.
