Charity walk to celebrate Covid victim’s memory

A SPECIAL charity walk is to take place in memory of a popular Glencull woman who died from Covid-19 late last year.

Nuala McLaughlin (née McAnenly), who worked for the Western Health Trust, was just 43-years-old when she passed away in December 2020.

Now, her family and friends have joined together to raise money for the Intensive Care Unit at the South West Acute Hospital and for the Child Support Services where she was a long-serving member of staff.

Tyrone GAA legend, Peter Canavan, and well-known singer and entertainer, Malachi Cush, are both supporting the fundraising effort.

“During the last few weeks of her life, Nuala was cared for by the committed staff in the Intensive Care Unit at the South West Acute Hospital,” her brother, Fr Peter McAnenly said.

“Her family are now inviting people to take part in this walk in Nuala’s memory and to raise funds for the hospital and Child Support Services.

“The walk will take place in the lovely countryside close to her family home in Glencull, Ballygawley, which overlooks the Clogher Valley. It will begin and end on Errigal Road and signs to the start point will be in place on the day on the main Ballygawley to Omagh Road.”

Anyone hoping to take part in the walk can now register and the fundraising event will take place from 5am until 9pm on Sunday, July 4.

In the interests of health and safety and in light of Covid guidelines, it is also suggested that people stay with their partner or family unit when completing the 5k route and that families start and finish the route together.

For anyone who is unable to book a time slot on the day, it is suggested that they consider doing the walk close to their own homes.
