Cuilcagh charity climb to mark Shania’s 12th birthday

THE sister of an 11-year-old Killyclogher schoolgirl who died in tragic circumstances at the start of this month has launched a charity fundraiser in memory of her ‘wee angel’.

Shania McAshee, a Year 8 pupil at Drumragh Integrated College in Omagh, passed away surrounded by her family in Belfast’s Royal Victoria Hospital on January 5, having spent several days on life support.

Her death stunned the Killyclogher community, with hundreds of messages of support for her heartbroken family posted up on social media.

Earlier this week, older sister Danielle, announced on Facebook that her family and friends were planning on doing the popular ‘Stairway to Heaven’ boardwalk at Cuilcagh in county Fermanagh on May 9 this year, the day before what would have been Shania’s 12th birthday.

She said that all funds raised by the event will be donated to YoungMinds, a charity which is committed to improving the emotional wellbeing and mental health of children and young people.

Within hours of the fundraiser going live, more than £1,500 had been donated.

Danielle added, “Thank you so much everyone for your donations, your support has been overwhelming… I will keep going and try to raise as much as I can for such an amazing charity so close to my heart. I hope Shania McAshee is so proud.”
