A YOUNG lad from Castlederg will make his TV debut this Sunday on CBBC’s comedy panel show, The Dog Ate My Homework.
Charlie Connolly (9), is a pupil at St Patrick’s Primary School in the Derg and according to the man himself, his trip to BBC Scotland Studios in Glasgow last November was “very fun and good craic”.
Selected via Zoom auditions from thousands of kids all over the UK and Ireland to star as team captain in the show, Charlie was joined by comedians Helen Baeur and David Morgan for the day’s filming.
The Dog Ate My Homework features two teams who face a mischievous mix of tongue-in-cheek comedy, off-the-wall questions and slapstick challenges in a school-based panel show.
“It was the first weekend in November,” Charlie’s mum, Kerrie explained. “We travelled to Glasgow and the fiming was done in one day but we went over for the weekend. It was definitely very good. Charlie loved it. It was good fun and (for him) a great achievement.”
Admitting the family are super proud of their young “superstar”, Kerri says the whole family will gather round the TV this Sunday at 9.40am when the programme airs on CBBC.
She also said a big thank you to Rois Kelly-Lynch of Much Ado Stage School in Castlederg, who alerted Charlie to the opportunity.
“When the cameras were pointing at me I didn’t really notice,” Charlie enthused. “I was just paying attention to (host) Lauren laughing and making jokes.”
Rois, from Much Ado, also praised Charlie for his professionalism.
“He headed off to Glasgow with his amazing mum Kerrie and what an incredible experience they had together,” she said.
“We have heard nothing but glowing reports from the CBBC crew on how professional he was and especially as he was their youngest contestant this year. We see a bright big future ahead for this young man.”
