DISPOSABLE E-cigarette ‘vapes’ are to be banned across the UK under Government plans to curb teenage vaping.
This announcement after a consultation report, called ‘Creating a smoke-free generation and tackling youth vaping’, garnered over 1,200 responses across the North.
In a statement released this week, the North’s Department of Health (DoH) said it had ‘noted’ the UK government’s plans to introduce measures to reduce teen vaping.
‘HUGELY IMPORTANT’
Omagh councillor Barry McElduff said that the plans for new legislation were “hugely important”.
“You see these vapes everywhere, in the roads, on the grass verges and on our footpaths.
“They still contain batteries and residue from the liquid used within them and I’ve heard reports of children as young as nine lifting them from the street and using them.”
Mr McElduff added, “This could be the next big generational crisis and from a public health perspective this is hugely concerning.
“Stronger messaging and an incorporation into the school curriculum should be implemented sooner rather than later.”
