“IF you have the words, there’s always a chance that you’ll find the way…” – Seamus Heaney.

The English Department at Drumragh Integrated College were delighted to welcome Frank Galligan into the classroom to facilitate creative writing workshops.

Mr Galligan is a writer, broadcaster and journalist from the ‘Highland Radio;’ and columnist with the Tyrone Herald, Derry Journal, Belfast Telegraph and Donegal Democrat, and a long-time creative writing facilitator with The Pushkin Trust.

Through this fantastic accolade, the department and students were able to benefit from his expertise and experience.

Students were enthralled by his fascinating stories of working with a variety of literary figures throughout his years, and they were able to engage in their own creations of seasonal poetry, guided by Mr Galligan, using a range of metaphors, imagery and descriptive writing.

Students were immersed in a world of imagination and creativity through Mr Galligan’s positivity and words of wisdom.

Speaking to the UH following the workshop, Julie Wilson, head of English, said that it was a ‘privilege’ to witness his teaching and the progress made by students throughout the workshops provided.

“We want to thank Mr Galligan and our fantastic students for all their endeavours and hard work,” she added.
