Father of local football star to be laid to rest

THE late father of Liverpool star Conor Bradley will be laid to rest tomorrow (Tuesday).

Joe Bradley (58) passed away on Saturday morning just days after Conor’s man of the match performance against Chelsea in the Premier League, when he made two assists and scored his first ever goal for the Reds.

It is understood that Mr Bradley, who ran Derg Commercials Ltd alongside his wife, Linda for nearly 20 years, had been ill for some time.

Originally from Killen, Conor Bradley has been in outstanding form for Liverpool since breaking into the first team. He is also the first Northern Ireland-born player in 70 years to score for Liverpool in the top flight.

Leading the tributes to Joe Bradley was Liverpool FC.

A spokesperson for the club said, “Liverpool FC is deeply saddened by the death of Conor Bradley’s father, Joe, today (Saturday). The thoughts of everybody at the club are with Conor and all of the Bradley family at this very difficult and sad time.

“On behalf of Conor, LFC strongly urges that the family’s privacy is fully respected at this time.”

Condolences were also offer by one of Conor Bradley’s former clubs, Dungannon Swifts.

A Swifts spokesperson said, “Our thoughts and prayers are with Conor Bradley. We are so sorry to learn of your father’s passing. Thinking of you, your mum and all the family.”

The Northern Ireland team posted on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “We are saddened to hear of the passing of Conor Bradley’s father today. Our thoughts are with Conor and his friends and family at this difficult time.”

Additionally, Liverpool fans’ group Anfield Edition also sent condolences, saying, “Our thoughts and prayers are with you, Conor. At least Conor’s dad got to see him on the main stage, scoring at Anfield in a Premier League game. He saw you achieve your dreams, Conor.”

St Patrick’s Football Club in Castlederg posted a heartfelt tribute to Joe Bradley. The club said, “There’s so much more we could say about a great local man but we’d like the family to know that Joe and they will certainly be in our prayers, particularly over the coming days and once again we offer our sympathies. We would like for everyone to respect the families wishes and privacy at this time.”

Requiem Mass for Joe Bradley will take place at St Patrick’s Church, Aghyaran tomorrow at 2pm, followed by interment in the adjoining churchyard.
