DERRY City and Strabane District Council has launched a consultation for residents to offer their thoughts and opinions on how the Newtownstewart Town Centre Regeneration Framework will be rolled out in the coming years.
A consultation is now live on the council’s website, and will run for the next four weeks, offering residents and local businesses the opportunity to have their say on the proposed framework.
The council has published recommendations in a ‘Draft Newtownstewart Town Centre Regeneration Framework document relating to Streetscape, Hertiage, Access and Parking, Connectivity, Business Development, Tourism, Community Safety and Security’.
The actions have been devised following engagement with key stakeholders, and will help deliver positive change and improve issues affecting the town centre.
The draft Regeneration Framework highlights the key challenges facing Newtownstewart town centre, and recommends deliverable actions going forward which will contribute to its economic, social and environmental well-being over the next five-ten years.
Ruairi McHugh, chair of Council’s Environment & Regeneration Committee, encouraged residents to have their say on the regeneration vision for Newtownstewart town centre.
“Ahead of this consultation, Council has conducted detailed research and analysis as well as engagement with key local stakeholders and government agencies, in terms of identifying the challenges facing the health and vitality of the town centre, and recommendations for how some of these challenges can be addressed.
“Council and its partners remain committed to using its best endeavours to secure the necessary resources to assist with the delivery of this Framework, however, we need the feedback and opinions from local residents and businesses ahead of the next step in the action plan.
“I would encourage everyone to get involved and have their say on this upcoming project, and we thank you all in advance for offering those valuable thoughts and suggestions.”
The consultation will close at 4pm on Monday, March 11.
