A TEENAGER is due to appear in court today (Monday) after a suspected arson attack in Dungannon at the weekend.
On Friday night at 9pm, police and fire crews responded to an ‘extensive blaze’ in a house on the Crannog Way area.
No injuries were reported, but police have confirmed that the incident is being treated as suspected arson.
A PSNI spokesperson said, “Colleagues from the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service also attended the scene, and managed to extinguish the blaze, which was described as being extensive, and is being treated as deliberate ignition at this time.
“Thankfully, there were no reports of any injuries.
“One man aged in his late teens has been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life and remains in custody at this time, assisting with enquiries.
“Enquiries remain ongoing, and officers would appeal to anyone who might have any information which might assist, to get in touch.”
Yesterday (Sunday) afternoon, police revealed that the suspect had been charged with arson and was due to appear in court today.
A spokesperson said, “The 19-year-old has been charged with arson endangering life with intent (and) is expected to appear before Dungannon Magistrates Court.
“As is usual procedure, all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.”
