Local residents show their love for Lammy

THE people of Lammy turned out in their droves for a special fun day last Friday.

It was the first community event held in the Lammy area since 1998, and organisers said it ‘couldn’t have gone any better.’

In the same spirit as their neighbours around the corner in Strule and Centenary, the people of the Brookmount Road decided that the time has come to reclaim responsibility for their own affairs.

The Lammy Residents Group (LRG) has been revived and members are determined to use it for the benefit of the community.

However, after more than 20 years without an event, LRG member, Paddy Hunter, was apprehensive whether people would show their support.

But to Paddy’s relief, “It ended up going as well as we could have hoped for.

“Everything went well – the weather was fine, the craic was great, people who had never crossed paths had a chance to meet for a first time, and old friends took the opportunity to make up for time lost to the pandemic,” he said.

But it wasn’t all bouncy castles and candyfloss – Paddy explained that some serious buisness was also tended to.

“The residents group serves an important function in the park” explained Paddy, “it is a forum where voices can be heard and air can be cleared.

“It is an integral part of a healthy, vibrant, self-reliant community.”

Paddy named so many shops, people, and businesses that supported the day… we don’t have room to print them all – but suffice to say that there is no shortage of local love for Lammy!
