Major fire in breaks out in Carrickmore

FIREFIGHTERS are at the scene of a major fire at a former nursing home on the Creggan Road in Carrickmore.

Appliances have been battling the blaze for almost two hours. Residents have been urged to stay away from the area.

The building, which has been unused for a number of years, is located just off the Main Street area. Traffic has now been prevented from entering the vicinity of the area where the fire has taken hold.

Extra appliances have also been sent to the scene and specialist equipment is being used to try and bring the fire under control.

Local councillor in the area, Catherine Kelly and Barry McElduff, have this evening urged people to stay away from the area to allow the Northern Ireland Fire Service to continue their work unobstructed.
