‘Pawsome’ challenge as Jenny and Duke run for Grovehill

WITH her trusty rescue dog at her side, kind-hearted Jenny Steele has set herself a tough – yet pawsome – challenge of running and walking a combined distance of 200k this month in aid of Grovehill Animal Trust.

It is a cause especially close to the Queen’s University, Belfast student’s heart, as she has seen first-hand the work of the Omagh-based animal shelter, who provide love, care and ‘furever’ homes for unwanted and homeless animals across the district.

Her beloved dog, Duke, is a leading example of this: When he first arrived at Grovehill, he was in a sorry state: The Spaniel-cross was scared of humans; filthy; matted; and starving.

However, life soon changed for the pup, who was treated with care and kindness at the shelter, before finding a loving home with Jenny and family five years ago. He settled into his new routine well; in no time, quickly learning to enjoy a life free from hunger and fear.

Fast-forward to the present, and the four-legged friend and Jenny are absolutely inseparable – and now the pair are enjoying their ardent mission to raise as much money for Grovehill Animal Trust as they can.

Speaking to the Ulster Herald, chairperson of the animal charity, Janice Porter thanked Jenny, and said that every penny raised will go towards the rescuing and rehoming of unwanted and stray cats and dogs.

“The past 15 months have been particularly hard for the shelter, as we have been unable to fundraise in the usual way,” Janice said. “On behalf of Team Grovehill; Richard Robinson, shelter co-ordinator; and myself, I would like to wish Jenny and Duke every success in this challenge – and we do hope the sun will shine for them both!”
