Popular Omagh menswear shop closes after 25 years in business

AFTER 25 years of serving the community, Bowes Brothers menswear shop in Omagh is bidding farewell.

Owners Kevin and Aidan have announced their decision to retire, marking the end of an era for the Bridge Street establishment.

In a heartfelt announcement on social media, the brothers expressed their gratitude to their loyal customers and shared their excitement for a ‘well-deserved retirement’.

Kevin, who has been in the retail industry for over five decades, reminisced about his beginnings at Wattersons on Omagh’s High Street and expressed gratitude for the invaluable mentorship he received.

Kevin and Aidan, along with their work colleague, Seamie, have been well known faces in the town.

“As soon as I left school I went to work in Watterson’s and I was trained up by the best, Cecil Kerr and Tom Watterson who were both gentlemen,” said Kevin.

The decision to open Bowes Brothers came when Aidan returned to Omagh from England, seeking to invest in a storefront. Together, the brothers embarked on a journey that would span over two decades, navigating the ever-changing landscape of retail.

Reflecting on the challenges posed by online shopping and shifting fashion trends, Kevin emphasised the importance of adapting with the times while staying true to their loyal customer base.

Despite the industry’s transformations, Bowes Brothers remained a cornerstone of the community, offering quality menswear and exceptional service.

Kevin told the UH, “We’ve enjoyed having a loyal customer base through the years. Fashion always changes but I think we did a good job of moving with the times.”

As they prepare to close their doors for the final time on March 30, Kevin and Aidan invite customers to make use of vouchers until March 24.
