Strabane protest tomorrow in support of Palestinian people

LOCAL activist group ‘Strabane Are Palestine’ (SAP) will hold a demonstration tomorrow in a show of solidarity with the people of Gaza.

The event is planned for Saturday at 3pm at Abercorn Square in Strabane.

A spokesperson for SAP said: “Strabane Are Palestine are asking the people of Strabane to turn out to show their support for the people of Palestine.

“We are once again protesting against the ongoing Western-backed Israeli genocide in Gaza. Amnesty International has concluded there is sufficient basis to determine that Israel has committed, and continues to commit, genocide in the occupied Gaza Strip – this now includes the deliberate starvation of Gaza’s population.”

The spokesperson also voiced strong criticism of Western governments.

“There is real anger at the West, which has not only supported Israel’s actions but actively promoted them. The US and UK continue to supply weapons to Israel – actions which violate both domestic and international law, particularly in relation to preventing genocide and upholding international humanitarian law.

“We never expected to be protesting 20 months into what we see as a genocide and ethnic cleansing campaign. Our campaign is non-party political, and all are welcome – regardless of political affiliation. This is a humanitarian issue.”
