ANN Marie McGlynn may not have achieved her ultimate goal of qualifying for the Olympics at Sunday’s Valencia Marathon, but she’s proud of herself for just finishing the race and rightly so.
The Strabane woman missed out on meeting the two hours 29 minutes and 30 seconds needed to earn a place in Tokyo next summer, but her finishing time of two hours, 35 minutes and 29 seconds was an achievement in itself.
Although disappointed not to have hit her target time, the 40-year-old mother of two isn’t giving up hope of making the grade in 2021.
“I’m gutted, but that’s marathon running for you,” Ann-Marie admitted.
“But I’m grateful I got to toe the line, it’s an amazing city, it was an amazing set-up, so I’ll just have to regroup and take the positives out of it.
“I had an amazing 14 week block [of training] with no injuries and no illnesses. I’ve had an amazing 2020 considering everything that went on and I’ll just enjoy Christmas now and I’ll maybe get another whack at it in the Spring!
