Burrows and McCoy shine in the sun at Bishopscourt

LOCAL racers, Jack Burrows and Gary McCoy shone in the sun at Bishopscourt during the first round of the 2025 Ulster Superbike Championship last weekend.

Cookstown’s McCoy claimed his first ever Superbike race win in the series during the second outing for the big bikes on the day, beating McAdoo Kawasaki’s Korie McGreevy, who won the first Superbike battle of the day, while Richard Cooper claimed third, Burrows Racing’s Conor Cummins was ninth, Aughnacloy’s Andrew Smyth took 11th and Cookstown’s Jordan McCord claimed 19th.

In the first of the Superbike races, McGreevy, Cooper and Andy Reid were involved in a titanic race-long tussle which ended with McGreevy getting his McAdoo machine across the line in front of Cooper, with Reid third.

While Cooper had to play second fiddle to McCoy and McGreevy in the superbike races, he didn’t suffer such a role in the Supersport or Supertwin races, all of which he won.

He finished in front of McGreevy to win both Supersport races, while Cummins claimed fourth and sixth placed finishes, Blackwatertown’s Kevin Lavery took seventh and 12th, Dungannon’s Paul Cranston 28th and 32nd, while Omagh’s Jamie Lyons who suffered a big crash during the first Superbike race when leader Ryan Gibson collected him as collateral damage, was 10th in race two.

Cooper also dominated the Supertwin races onboard the KMR machine built and prepared by Dungannon’s Ryan Farquhar, beating McCoy in both races, while Burrows Racing’s Caolan Irwin as third in both and Lavery fourth.

Young Jack Burrows, who is preparing for his second season in the British Talent Cup, dominated the Moto3 races, winning both, while veteran Nigel Moore sealed a brace of third placed finishes and Cookstown’s Marley Brown, on his USBK debut, finished fifth in the second Supersport 300 race.

And in the Classic section, Nigel Moore earned two second placed finishes in the C350 class, while Eddie Gilmour won the opening C1000 outing of the season.

The action will continue over Easter weekend.
