‘Claret Jug’ success for James Jack

MEMBERS and visitors enjoyed a very busy Open Week at Newtownstewart Golf Club with competitions every day over the course of two weeks.

The Pat Kirk Open Stroke opened the week and a fine 64 nett from Bob Hayes took the honours. On the Sunday, Ross Morrison shot 42 points to claim the Mitchell Meats Open Stableford.

The Frylite Open Stableford on the Monday was won by Sean ‘Bosco’ Kelly from Northwest GC with 39 points with Therese Mullan taking the ladies competition with 38 points.

Anita McCay and Adrian Sweeney won the Ultra Tuesday mixed Greensomes with a 61.6 nett while the Wednesday Ultra Open Stableford was won by Colin Wilson with a fine 43 points.

The Play in Pink Open Ladies 3 ball scramble was won by Oonagh Haran, Anita McCay and Mandy Coyne on the Thursday with 61.33 nett while on the Friday the Golf Shop Open 4-person scramble was won by Chris Wilson, 
Adrian Sweeney, Sean Glackin and Seamus Byrne.

The Saturday saw the first playing of the Coulter’s Photography ‘Claret Jug’ Open Stroke and a level par round was enough for James Jack to claim the honours with a nett 65.

The week was concluded on the Sunday with the TC Autos Open Stableford. Robert Smyth shot a superb 45 points to win the final event of what was a superb week.
