A MAGNIFICENT total of 1-3 in the opening quarter and 1-4 in total from Darragh Canavan set Errigal Ciaran on the road to victory in the Tyrone Senior championship.
The Tyrone forward was in spectacular form again, this time for this club who raced to a rampant 1-20 to 0-10 win over Clonoe.
His brother, Ruairi, fired over five points as Odhran Robinson, Ben McDonnelly and Peter Harte also excelled in a display which marks them out as being major contenders for this year’s title.
It’s a result which confirms three out of the four Quarter Final pairings in the senior championship. Errigal now progress to meet Loughmacrory, Trillick play Killyclogher, Carrickmore take on Coalisland and Eglish face the winners of the clash of reigning champions, Dungannon and Dromore.
A hectic weekend of action proved once again the enduring appeal of the Tyrone senior championship, and Tyrone’s Sam Maguire heroes were among those to really impress.
Tiernan McCann and Mark Bradley were to the fore as Killyclogher swept aside the challenge Donaghmore.
Goals from James and Simon Garrity and a Lee Brennan penalty saw Trillick dispose of Galbally with five points to spare on a score of 3-7 to 1-8. However, they are now sweating on the fitness of Mattie Donnelly, who went off injured in the second half.
Conor McKenna was in top class form in his first senior championship outing for his club, Eglish. He scored three points as Matthew and Michael McGleenan contributed richly to the St Patrick’s victory over Pomeroy.
On a brilliant day of action on Saturday, the Carrickmore against Omagh and Coalisland against Edendork produced ri-roaring encounters.
The St Colmcille’s had raced into a big lead against Omagh, thanks to goals from Cormac Munroe and team captain, Rory Donnelly. Omagh trailed at one stage by 2-5 to 0-1, but fought back valiantly with a goal from Ronan O’Neill an cracking points courtesy of Connor O’Donnell. It was all level entering added time, before Niall Allison got the crucial goal which ensured Carrickmore’s progress.
Tyrone stars, Niall Morgan, Conn Kilpatrick and Darren McCurry were all to the fore as Edendork came agonisingly close to defeating the 2018 champions, Coalisland. The St Malachy’s looked poised to reach the quarter final until two added time goals from the Fianna saw them through instead.
Loughmacrory, meanwhile, are preparing for an intriguing clash against Errigal following their 0-12 to 1-5 win over Derrylaughan, Conall and Pearse Grimes and Cathaoir Gallagher were all to the fore for the St Teresa’s.
