Edendork settle into groove against plucky Clogher

EDENDORK weathered two storms of a rather different sort today as they took their sweet time in coming to grips with rank outsiders Clogher, even if the final scoreline tells a rather different story.

In atrocious weather conditions, Clogher ran into a surprising 0-5 to 0-1 lead in the opening quarter of an hour – but that’s where the good times ended for the Eire Ogs.

With a championship shock on the horizon, Edendork upped the ante and then some as they overpowered their opponents for the remainder of the game, with Clogher going 40 minutes without scoring before hitting a consolation goal in injury time.

Eendork manager Lorcan Martin delivered some choice words during the first-half water-break, and it seemed to shock them into action as they finally got going and took a one-point lead into the second-half after points from Darren McCurry, Harry Og Conlon and Christopher McCurry.

Clogher had run out of gas, and Edendork extended their lead with three rapid-fire points, including a jaw-dropping long-range free from Morgan.

Their opponents were struggling to muster so much as an attack, and Edendork made light of the weather conditions as Daire Conway and McCurry scored two brilliant points, before they well and truly put the game to bed when Cain Ferguson palmed the ball into the net to leave it 1-12 to 0-6 with just over ten minutes remaining.

In fairness to Clogher they didn’t lie down and Mark Bogue scored a fine solo goal as the clock ticked into injury time.

Edendork rubbed salt into the wounds with another goal of their own, however, with an audacious lobbed effort from Christoper McCurry. That was that – job done, if rather belatedly, and they’ll know they’ll face a much tougher test in the quarter-finals against the Rock.
