NEIL Jardine is being tipped to become the next First Deputy President of the Irish Football Association.
The current chairman of the Fermanagh and Western League has been nominated for the posts of First and Second Deputy President in the forthcoming election of officers of the association.
Mr Jardine, who was the current vice-chairman of the IFA board, confirmed he was standing for high office but said he didn’t want to make any comment until after the election which takes place on June 28.
However the Herald understands that there is widespread support within the IFA Senior Council for Jardine, Conrad Kirkwood, who is standing for President and First Deputy President and for Colin McKendry, representing the North West FA, who, like Jardine, is standing for both deputy roles.
Jardine has been involved in the administration side of the local football since 1988 and has been ever present in the Fermanagh and Western since 1994. He joined the IFA Senior Council in 1997, replacing the late Brendan Keogh, and was voted onto the executive committee in 2002.
The Fermanagh man served as IFA treasurer from 2007-2011 and in doing so became the first Fermanagh and Western official to take up a leading position within the association. Mr Jardine joined the IFA Board in 2014 and has remained there ever since.
He was proposed for the IFA post by Roy Cathcart and seconded by Enda Love.
