THE GAA has confirmed that all club matches have been suspended indefinitely following a decision of the GAA Management Committee this morning.
The news follows a recommendation from the National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET) that the Republic should move to Level 5 restrictions for four weeks, which would mean an end to all sporting activity.
The Irish Government is set to announce new measures but the intercounty championship could potentially still go ahead behind closed doors if the country moves to Level 4 as it’s deemed an ‘elite sport’.
The GAA’s decision means that this weekend’s Donegal Senior Championship final, which had already been pushed back following a Covid case, will be postponed indefinitely, while it also has consequences for Tyrone as the Minor Championship final – which had also already been postponed – won’t go ahead this weekend, to cite just one example.
However, it should also be noted that training is still permitted.
