DUNGANNON Clarkes have moved to clarify that none of their members or players have tested positive for Covid-19 in response to comments made by Ulster GAA Chief Executive Brian McEvoy.
Speaking yesterday, McEvoy said that: “We are finding clusters of members of GAA clubs are testing positive, and invariably they are linked to teams that were playing in a county final of some sort. It seems to coincide with county finals and a local community celebrating.”
Dungannon Clarkes won their first Senior Championship final in 64 years when they overcame Trillick after extra-time and penalties on September 21, and the PSNI are currently investigating alleged breaches of social distancing in the aftermath of their historic victory.
Today, the club released a statement today clarifying that Ulster GAA’s top official Brian McEvoy wasn’t referring to Dungannon when making his comments yesterday.
“We are aware of media coverage yesterday and this morning linking clusters of Covid cases to GAA finals.
“We can confirm that as of today, some 17 days after we won the O’Neill Cup, we have not been notified of any positive cases amongst any of our players or members.
“The Ulster Council have confirmed to us that they are referring to other clubs within the province and they too are aware that we have no positive results.”
