Edendork clinch classic semi-final victory over Eglish

EDENDORK are through to the Intermediate Championship final after claimining a one-point victory over Eglish in tonight’s semi-final clash at Eoghan Ruadh, Dungannon.

It was a game of exceptionally high quality, exemplified by a starring attacking performance from Darren ‘Dazzler’ McCurry, who lived up to his nickname and then some, scoring ten points, five from frees and five marvellous efforts from open play.

The game was played at a frantic pace with only one foul conceded in the opening twenty minutes of play, and while Eglish started strongly, they hit four early wides.

But the scores started flowing thick and fast at both ends of the pitch, and by the half-time whistle,a polished Edendork side had built up a 0-9 to 0-6 cushion. It was sensational stuff – Conor McKenna having a ding-dust battle with Stephen Corr, All-Ireland U-20 winner Michael McGleenan duking it out with Tyrone star Conn Kilpatrick, and plenty of big hits from both teams.

A goal ten minutes into the second-half from the rampaging Michael McGleenan sent Eglish into a 1-9 to 0-11 lead, but Edendork kept on coming and could’ve scored a number of goals only for a sensational performance from Eglish netminder Steven Daly.

Late on, it looked like Eglish were on course for a place in the final, leading by two points with five minutes to go when Seamus Muldoon split the posts, but Edendork finished the game strongly with late points from Harry Og Conlan, Niall Morgan, and the latest in a line of absolutely magnificent points from that man Darren McCurry. Next up, they take on Galbally in the Intermediate decider in two weeks’ time.
