Peter Harte named as new Tyrone senior captain

PETER Harte has been appointed as captain of the Tyrone Senior Intercounty Footballers, it was officially confirmed this evening.

It marks the first change in captaincy during the Feargal Logan and Brian Dooher era with Padraig Hampsey skippering the side for the first three years of their tenure, including the historic 2021 season which saw Tyrone win the All-Ireland SFC title for the fourth time in its history.

Harte, who will be assisted by new vice-captain Brian Kennedy, is the longest serving member of the Tyrone panel. He made his senior debut in early 2010 and this is his 15th uninterrupted season at this level with Tyrone.

The Errigal Ciaran clubman has made 203 appearances for his county, second only to Tyrone legend Sean Cavanagh in the all-time rankings.

Brian Kennedy, meanwhile, has made 55 appearances at senior intercounty level since making his debut in 2019. He won an All-Star for his performances in the middle of the park in 2021.

The news comes as Tyrone hone their preparations for the start of their Division One campaign which gets underway this Sunday at home to Roscommon.
