Johnston teams up with Takamoto at Toyota

LESS than a week after the shock announcement that Aaron Johnston and Oliver Solberg had parted company, the Fintona co-driver has signed a deal to partner Takamoto Katsuta at Toyota Gazoo Racing.

The 26-year-old will join Kris Meeke’s former team with immediate effect, partnering the rising Japanese star at next weekend’s Rally Finland under the watchful eye of his new ‘boss’, Toyota Gazoo Racing team principal, Jari-Matti Latvala.

“I’m extremely excited and I’m very privileged to be in the position to take the opportunity to step into the factory Toyota car with Takamoto Katsuta straight away, starting at the next World Championship round in Finland,” he beamed.

“It will be my first time competing there and doing it in a factory car for the last time the rally will be run in the current spec cars before we move to hybrid technology, is  something I’m really looking forward to.

“It’s a new challenge, one that I cannot wait to start and I’m looking forward to making the best of this opportunity with Toyota and building a relationship with Takamoto for the future and doing the best job we can together to achieve the maximum result.”
