Magee and Reynolds impress in France

JOSH Magee and Paul Reynolds made an impressive start to tournament play in 2021 at the Orleans Masters BWF Tour 100 event in France last week.

Raphoe man, Magee, and his playing partner Reynolds reached the quarter-finals of the prestigious event before the latter’s back injury forced them to withdraw from their last-eight clash with fourth seeds, England’s Sean Vendy and Alex Lande after the opening game.

“We were actually concerned about Paul’s back during the whole week because before we had even left he had told me how bad his back was,” Josh explained.

“So we were just taking each match as it came and seeing how he felt and how he was holding up. He was with the physio every day, sometimes twice a day just to get through each game.

“It was a struggle for him, but we got two good results out, which were were happy about.

“We were going in as underdogs against the English anyway, but it was our opportunity to play against a big pair to see where we’re at, what our level was like compared to them.

“Unfortunately, we weren’t able to compete because Paul was in too much pain. We tried to play one set, but it we weren’t at the races.”
