STRABANE Athletic and Ardstraw football clubs are expecting that the Northern Ireland Intermediate League season will be cancelled after the North West Junior League (NWJL) has for the second season running admitted defeat in trying to complete it’s fixture programme.
In fact, the 2020-21North West Junior League season didn’t even get started because of the on-going Covid pandemic.
Last season the North West Junior League called a halt to proceedings due to the initial lockdown restrictions that had been put in place in the spring.
It had been hoped that the current season would be up and running by the autumn, however, that wasn’t the case and following the extension of lockdown measures that came into effect on Boxing Day and that will now run until March 5 at the earliest, the local governing body has decided to call it a day.
Shortly after the Northern Ireland Executive confirmed that restrictions were to remain in place for the foreseeable future the NWJL posted a statement on the league Facebook.
