Farmer is set for return four weeks after shoulder op

KEITH Farmer’s season looked over before it even began following a crash during qualifying at the opening round of the 2020 Bennett’s British Superbike Championship at Donington Park at the start of August. 

 

He was making his debut on the Hawk Racing Buildbase Suzuki but lost the bike under braking which led him to sustain a nasty shoulder injury that required surgery a fortnight later. 

 

The Clogher native went under Professor Leonard Funk’s knife in Manchester on August 22nd to repair the ACJ Ligament tear and even the most optimistic observer only gave him an outside chance of making the final round of this season’s Championship. 

 

Keith’s not one to give up, though, as he proved after recovering from two broken legs following an off at Knockhill last year, and he has surprised Prof Funk by being ready to return to action this coming weekend at Oulton Park, four weeks after his operation. 

 

The Penrith-based racer was back on a motocross bike two and a half weeks after surgery and such is his recovery, Prof Funk wants footage of him in action to show prospective patients! 

 

“My shoulder is all intact and all good and the Professor was blown away,” beamed Keith, who is determined not to run before he can walk during his rehabilitation. 

 

“I’m going to build it up slowly by not doing too much but there’s a difference each day. I was on my motocross bike on the Wednesday night but then on the Thursday night I was in a little bit of pain – nothing horrendous but I was aware of it and it was uncomfortable. 

 

“Other than that, it’s not too bad. My physio is blown away by my range of movement and that I can do push-ups and things. It’s getting there.”
