McNabb scoops the Players’ Player of the Year Award

GARY McNabb was a happy man on Sunday night when he was announced as the Short Mat Players’ Tour’s players’ player of the year.

The Trillick man came out on top in the voting, beating England’s Alex Kley into second and fellow Tyrone bowler, Mark Beattie into third.

“I really enjoyed this recognition because it’s the players’ player of the year, so it’s nice to see people are voting for you, for the player you are and for what you’ve done,” beamed the Fintona Pearses Bowling Club player.

McNabb scooped 36.3% of the total vote to cap an incredible 2020 campaign that saw him win 93% of his matches on the Tour.

The 32-year-old enjoyed a 28 match winning run at one stage, during  which he claimed back-to-back titles.

“I lost two games out of 30! I got onto a good run and I won the Irish Open and British Open back-to-back and then I got beaten in the quarter-finals of the English Open, which is when the run came to an  end,” the Mid Tyrone Zone star added.
