DROMORE’S Darnell Moore clinched a narrow victory over reigning champion Lindsay Watson to win the Island Wheelers CC-promoted PJ Logan Cup, which attracted a field from across Ireland.
Raced over the Bush circuit near Coalisland, Vitus Pro Cycling’s Moore snatched victory with a final sprint up the hill to the finish to defeat Powerhouse Sports’ Watson, who just a week earlier had claimed bronze at the Irish National Time trial Championships.
East Antrim Audi’s Gary Cranston filled out the podium in third, with Alan Bingham of Newry Wheelers fourth and Don Morrisey Pactimo’s Nathan Ward fifth.
Behind that quintet were Dunamanagh’s Adam Ward, who was representing Spain’s Antigua Casa Bel Sola, in sixth, with Caldwell Cycles’ Gareth O’Neill seventh and Conor McCann eighth.
In ninth was Shay Donley, who was first unplaced A2 and 10th went to first unplaced A3 rider, Steven McAllister of Ballymoney CC. Ciaron Dixon was the first unplaced junior in 17th overall.
In the Eddie Polin Memorial Cup (for A4 riders), Lakeland CC’s Fergus McGirr was first, with Kieran Chappell second and Niall Daly third.
Darcey Harkness of Carn Wheelers was the first lady home, ahead of Emma Smith, with Ciara Havern third.
