Andrew Watson will head to the Nürburgring for the second round of the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance series this weekend.
The opening round of the season at Imola saw the Donaghmore man claim a second-place Silver Class podium at the wheel of the #159 Garage 59 Aston Martin Vantage GT3 alongside Valentin Hasse-Clot. Joining them in the car from this weekend onward will be 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps class winner James Pull.
The Nürburgring GP circuit is a staple amongst endurance racing and the 3.199-mile layout will host a round of the Endurance Cup for the first time since 2016. The technical nature of the track coupled with the cooler weather conditions expected compared to Imola will present a very different challenge for the team but it’s a circuit Andrew enjoys and has experience of with a top-ten finish at the series’ Sprint Cup visit in 2017.
This year’s event also sees it increase to a six-hour race, creating an extra dynamic for the team and drivers to take into consideration.
“I’m feeling confident as we head into the weekend that we can push for another strong result,” Andrew said. “Valentin and myself came close to the win in Imola and, with James on board for the rest of the year, I believe we’re in a good position. The Nürburgring is a great track and asks a lot of the car – even more so this year with the longer race. I can’t wait to get going!”
The weekend begins with practice on Saturday morning at 07:00 (GMT) followed by Pre-Qualifying at 11:35 (GMT) and the full Qualifying session at 17:10 (GMT). The race will begin on Sunday morning at 09:45 (GMT).
