SIMON Torrens enjoyed a couple of days to remember at Listowel last week when he recorded three wins, including a quick-fire double success on Saturday.
Last Sunday, the Castlederg native won the Charleville Cheese Maiden Hurdle on Hand In My Pocket and he also finished second at the same venue in Monday’s Grade B Liam Healy Memorial Handicap on Anna Bunina.
But things went even better on Saturday when he claimed a back-to-back double in the Guinness Handicap Hurdle on Northern Emperor and then in the Grade B Ladbrokes Nation Plays Handicap Hurdle, which was worth
45,000 Euros, on Drop the Anchor.
Torrens’ trio of success last week are the latest in a long run of victories this season, which has gone particularly well before and after racing resumed following a break due to Covid-19.
In the four weeks immediately after racing resumed, Simon recorded five victories.
He rode Moll Dote to the win at Tramore on July 18th, which he followed with victory on She’stherightone on July 22nd at Ballinrobe, before back-to-back wins at Galway on Guinevere and Nibblers Charm on July 30th and 31st before and a triumph on Anna Bunina to victory at Sligo in early August.
“It’s been going grand! I’d definitely have taken it before things restarted because I thought things might have been slower getting going again but I’m delighted,” he beamed.
