Senior intercounty training set to return on April 19

TAOISEACH Michael Martin has announced this evening that senior intercounty teams may return to collective training on April 19.

Martin said a return on that date would facilitate the start of the national leagues, expected to get underway around four weeks later.

However, permission wasn’t granted for underage teams at intercounty level to return to normal training on April 19.

Martin also said that the intercounty season would go ahead before the club season.

It is now likely that the GAA will follow through on their plans to play a condensed national league, but it remains to be seen whether the association will persist with their plans to reintroduce a backdoor system to this year’s senior football championship.
