Tummery Athletic 3
Dergview Reserves 2
(after extra-time)
TUMMERY Athletic had to dig deep in extra-time to secure a sixth Mulhern Cup triumph at a sun-kissed Ferney Park last evening.
A Paudie Dillon goal shortly after the hour mark looked to have won the cup for the Dromore side, but, two minutes into stoppage-time, Dergview Reserves captain Dale Maxwell popped up with a dramatic equaliser to take the final into extra-time.
Two unfortunate own goals by Derg defenders Colin Robinson and Maxwell in the first period of overtime again left Tummery with one hand on the trophy.
However Andy Sproule’s battlers hadn’t gone away and when Dylan Aiken rifled in a second, the outcome was again back in the proverbial melting pot.
The sending off of substitute Colm Garrity for a second yellow card left Athletic hanging on in the final minutes, but, hang on they did, to capture the prestigious silverware for the first time in five seasons.
