Two Castles Conan stars for Ireland

TWO Castles Olympic Boxing Club’s Conan McSorley continued his ascent in the sport with an excellent showing for Ireland during an international match against Scotland in the Dalkeith Minors Club, Edinburgh on Saturday.

The talented Newtownstewart lad, who impressed during two trips to American during the summer, continued to cement his stature as one of the brightest talents in Ireland with a mature performance – his first over three minute rounds – against reigning Scottish and Irish champion, George Parvin.

The Omagh CBS pupil began the first round well and continued with a dominant second stanza to leave his illustrious opponent behind on the scorecards before sixteen-year-old McSorley produced a solid third round to seal the deal.

“[I] was happy with my performance,” Conan beamed.

“[It] was a very tough bout that was different than normal as it’s me just getting into three minute rounds.

“We both were going to war in the inside exchanging punches, so it made it even more tiring.

“But yeah happy with how I boxed. [I] worked well on the inside and landed some nice bodyshots. [I’m] very happy to get the win.”

Overall, Scotland won the international by a score of 11-5.

Ayghyaran native Caoimhin Connolly, boxing out of the Twin Towns club in County Donegal was also in action in Edinburgh alongside McSorley.

Unfortunately he dropped a wafer thin decision against another Scottish and British champion on the night, but like his fellow Tyrone man, his stock will continue to rise after another impressive showing between the ropes.
