Tyrone drivers prove themselves to be a ‘class’ act

TYRONE drivers proved to be a class act at Saturday’s Laois Summer Rallysprint where a total of three section victories were recorded.

 

Drumquin’s Dickson family were out in force on the day, with patriarch, Ashley and co-driver Paddy McCrudden leading the way in second overall behind David Condell and Liam Grant.

 

Behind the wheel of their Ford Fiesta R5, Dickson and McCrudden not only finished as runners-up but they also won the class 5D title.

 

Just behind his father was Stephen Dickson, who had Dermot McCaffery on the notes. They finished fourth overall in their Mitsubishi Evo and first in class 5 after topping the timesheets on stage one.

 

Ian Dickson, meanwhile, who was assisted by John McCafferty, endured a mixed day in their hired Evo 9. They were battling with an under-powered car for the first four stages which was traced to a boost pipe. 

 

With this sorted they had two good final stages but had lost too much time in the morning stages ending the day 3rd in Group N and 10th overall.

 

Also competing in Laois was Dromore’s Ryan McCanney in a Vauxhall Nova, which he drove to 23rd overall and first in class 1A with Conor McGuren alongside.

 

They finished just behind anther Tyrone man, David Dennison in 16th. In his Vauxhall Corsa and with Damien Conlan reading the notes, they finished second in class 2B.

 

Fintona’s Derrick Jobb was also in action on Saturday, driving a Mitsubishi Evo to 28th overall and fourth in class 5A.

 

Omagh’s Brian Little, meanwhile, with David McSorley on the notes, drove his Ford Escort G3 to 35th overall and fourth in class 3A.
