Tyrone U17 match halted as underage clashes called off

IT has been confirmed this afternoon that all intercounty matches at underage level have been paused indefinitely following the Irish Government’s decision to move the Republic to level five restrictions from midnight tonight.

That means that Collie Holmes’ Tyrone won get the chance to play in Saturday’s Ulster Championship clash against Donegal, while the U20 final between Dublin and Galway and a host of other fixtures have been called off.

A newly relesed statement from the GAA read:

“Following clarification from the Department of Sport around the staging of inter-county fixtures, the GAA can confirm that as of midnight this evening, all minor and U20 inter-county competitions are paused until further notice.”

The playing of the All-Ireland minor and U20 championships became mired in uncertainty after it emerged yesterday that Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan’s latest letter on October 15 to Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly stressed Nphet were allowing “senior inter-county” games to take place at the highest level of national Covid-19 restrictions.
