Euromillions winner Margaret Loughrey found dead

STRABANE woman, Margaret Loughrey, who famously won a £27m Euromillions jackpot eight years ago, has died.

The PSNI said they received a report of the sudden death of a woman at the Ballycolman Lane area of Strabane today.

Sources close to her family have confirmed that it was Ms Loughrey.

A PSNI spokesperson said, “A post mortem is due to take place but at this stage, the death is not being treated as suspicious.”

Back in 2013, Ms Loughrey, known as Mags to her friends, hit the headlines across Ireland and beyond after scooping £26,863,588.20 in the Euromillions lottery.

From struggling by on £58 per week Jobseeker’s Allowance, she became one of Ireland’s richest women.

But, despite her new-found wealth, she continued to live in her home town.

In 2014, Ms Loughrey purchased the derelict site of Herdmans Mill in Sion Mills for around £1m. While it was reported that she had ambitious plans to revamp the property, these never came to fruition.
