BELFAST’S Lyric Theatre brought a little bit of drama with an environmental message to the stage of St Conor’s Primary School in Omagh on Tuesday afternoon.
The performance of ‘A Walk is Not Just a Walk’ was part of a five-week tour of primary schools sponsored by the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs, highlighting environmental issues affecting life throughout the North.
The short play, written by Jess Williams and Michael Beigel, aims to raise awareness of littering and plastic pollution. Pupils are invited to watch this innovative, engaging piece of physical theatre that offers a fresh new approach to learning about the environment.
The project aims to support teachers and inspire primary-aged children with lively workshops related to their main stage production. These partnerships are tailored to meet the needs of schools and offer opportunities for classes to visit the Lyric.
Erin Hoey, Creative Learning Manager at Lyric Theatre, said, “This touring production is one of the Creative Learning department’s biggest educational ventures to date and we are looking forward to touring a newly-devised piece which has such an important, topical message.”
