100 firefighters involved in operation against Tyrone wildfires

MORE than 100 firefighters have been tackling wildfires in parts of Tyrone today.

The fires are continuing at Ballagh Road in Clogher and Fivemiletown.

A spokesperson for the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service said 18 fire appliances and around 100 firefighters were involved in the operation.

“Our partner agencies have been supporting us throughout the incident. If you live in the area, please keep your windows and doors closed,” said the spokesperson.

A PSNI spokesperson thanked all those involved in tackling the wildfires.

“A big thank you also to the Northern Ireland Forest Service who are assisting the fire service and to the Rapid Relief Team charity who are providing a catering service to keep the firefighters fed and watered!

“There are numerous road closures in place around the Fivemiletown and Clogher area and our District Support Team are assisting Mid Ulster Police on the ground ensuring that firefighters have a safe area to operate.

“Please avoid the area! You won’t get anywhere near the fire and are only hampering the numerous fire appliances trying to navigate the narrow country roads.”
