OMAGH CBS PE teacher, Conor McFlynn earned his fifth Emely Moor Field Target Club NEFTA Classic title.
The Ardboe man accumulated 142 points over the course of two days, during which competitors had to shoot 40 field targets and 40 silhouettes in what is a highly demanding but fun format of the sport.
Regarded as the toughest competition of its kind to win, McFlynn was delighted with his latest success at the venue where consistency proved key.
“Consistency was the theme as I managed a 38/40 on both days on the FT courses and 33/40 on both days in the silhouette range,” he acknowledged.
“The hazel wood in Emely with the purple carpet of bluebells offers perhaps some of the best grounds anywhere for a Field Target course. I always love shooting at Emely and the team had constructed two top class courses using every trick in the book to keep everyone challenged and on their toes.
There were lots of angles and various killzone sizes, eight discipline shots and long to medium range distances, close range reducers, light, shade and a tricky wind that were really difficult to read at times!
“The unique discipline and format of the silhouettes offer a nerve wrecking experience under the pressure of vigilant chief marshal Trevor Ryan.”
Meanwhile, JH Installations’ Jack Harris won the FT title with 77 points, while Lee J Hadlington claimed the silhouette accolade with 67 points, with McFlynn the overall champion with a combined total of 142 – 76 on FT and 66 on the silhouettes using his Walther LG400.
Conor was keen to thank those who organised the event and those who supported him.
“Thanks to Ian Taylor and all the Emely team for organising the weekend, the ladies in stats and Shaun Shore for uploading scores,” he said. “Many thanks to the generous sponsors and special mention to Claire at Air Arms for top prize.
“I had great company all weekend with shooting partner James Head of Crackshot.
“Gratitude also to the world class team at Field Target Association of Ireland who make these opportunities possible.
“ Special mention to my team mate and travel buddy Declan Canavan who drives and sorts out all the logistics of travelling and accommodation to and from these events!
“Bug hugs to my family and wife Briege McFlynn for the support and my daughter Aoife who has been my mentor and coach for the past few weeks. Can’t wait until the next one!”
