Participants wanted for St Patrick’s Day parade in Strabane

WITH a New Year dawning, thoughts have quickly turned towards St Patrick’s Day and Derry City and Strabane District Council’s Festivals and Events team have already begun preparing by issuing a call out to individuals, groups, schools, clubs, or businesses who are interested in taking part in this year’s parade Strabane.

One of the town’s biggest events, the 2026 event is aiming to be something special as it marks the 20th anniversary of St Patrick’s Day parades in the town, the highlight being the magnificent festive parade float through the town leaving from Holy Cross College, Melmount Rd making its way via Bridge Street, Market Street and Abercorn Square then along Railway Road and finishes in Dock Street.

It offers local organisations the chance to showcase themselves in front of thousands of spectators.

Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Cllr Ruairí McHugh, encouraged regular participants and potential first-timers to consider getting involved, whether it’s helping with costumes, performing in a band or a group or working behind the scenes in some capacity.

Cllr McHugh said, “St Patrick’s Day in Strabane is truly wonderful celebration, with a parade full of colour, music, dance, and pageantry. It’s a wonderful experience for everyone taking part – especially young people who get the chance to perform in front of thousands of spectators.

“Being part of the parade is not just fun, it’s an unforgettable experience that brings the whole community together.

“We’re making plans for the 2026 parade and would love your help to make it even more magical for this special year.”
